The Briton with exotic flair

It would be interesting to know whether Trevor Wilkinson could have imagined, even at the time of the first projects in 1946, that his sports cars would one day be inseparably linked with British automobile history. Because nowadays, everyone with just a little bit of a soft spot for classic cars knows the TVR brand.

This is probably due to the unmistakable and unusual design of the sports car: the models are all small and light. But always well powered, they always find themselves at the top end of the results list.

TVR is one of the most iconic British sports car brands and at TVR, including Grantura, Tasmin or Sagris, hardly any production model resembles the other. And yet they are all unmistakably made from the same mould, or built using the same technology. It was not until 1958 that Wilkinson's work culminated in the first series model: the Grantura, which was available with four-cylinder built-in engines from Ford, Coventry Climax or MG.
It was with the Griffith from 1963 that TVR first really made headlines: The small plastic coupé was powered by a 4.7-litre V8 from Ford - with this, the runabouts from Blackpool even competed with AC Cobra, Ferrari and Jaguar, for a fraction of the price. Frequent changes of ownership and too thin a capital base led to the brand's demise, although the last models were even powered by their own engines.
Regardless of the many owners, however, some things remain set in stone at TVR: a lot of power, little weight and fair prices - these are basically the three pillars on which TVR is built as a brand and on which its success is based. Not to mention the unrestrained driving pleasure without electronic driving aids that a TVR gives its drivers - but you certainly know that best!
