The ignition-system in a classic car is often the source of many problems. After years of use, the mechanical distributor becomes worn and increasingly inaccurate. Although replacement of the standard points with an optical eye or magnetic ignition set-up is an improvement, it does not compensate for the wear in the advance-mechanism, the distributor shaft and bearings within the distributor itself. The 123 ignition distributor is different. It comes in its own aluminium billet and nickel plated housing, although externally similar in its classic appearance to its mechanical counterpart, it contains high-tech electronics on the inside. While maintaining classic appearances under the bonnet, the internal technology makes your ignition system and engine perform better than ever before.

Lumenition Optronic Ignition
The Lumenition Optronic Ignition systems are well known as being among the finest after market electronic ignition systems available. The Lumenition Optronic Ignition is an electronic ignition conversion principally for cars fitted with mechanical distributors using contact set and condenser. There are only three components, very compact and simple to fit. First the optical switch, this contains a light emitting diode (LED) which sits on the switch bracket opposite a matching silicon photo transistor which receives or "sees" the infra red beam. Secondly, the interrupter called a chopper which is fitted over the cam, rotates interrupting the beam of light causing a pulse. It has one bade for each cylinder of the engine. Thirdly a power module receives this pulse via its internal electronic device which switches the ignition coil on hand off. The coil produces a high tension spark when switched off and is recharged when switched on. The installation can be carried out in most cases in less than an hour, a little longer with distributors that have the advance mechanism over the top of the original contact set. The advantage of the Lumenition Optronic system is that it contains no wearing parts, requires no adjustment or maintenance during service and once ignition timing is set it will remain permanently in tune. The engine will run better, more economically through improved efficiency, last longer and start better. Lumenition Optronic Ignition is suitable for vehicles with or without ballast resistor systems and/or voltage triggered tachometers. For positive and negative earthed cars.
Lumenition Magnetronic Ignition
The Lumenition Magnetronic Ignition System is designed as a budget electronic conversion for owners requiring the original look. All parts are neatly contained within the distributor unit. The system utilises the proven 'Hall Effect' magnetic pick-up and a unique triggering device. There are not any touching or wearing components, ensuring timing will remain accurate once installed. For negative earthed cars only.
