Jaguar XK8, XKR en XK (1996-2014)
Met de introductie van de Jaguar XK8 in 1996 begon een nieuw tijdperk voor het traditionele Britse merk. De sportwagen, intern X100 genoemd, nam de zware erfenis over van de XJS, die na meer dan 20 jaar productie werd vervangen.
Al bij de eerste aanblik was zijn afkomst duidelijk. Met zijn vloeiende carrosserielijnen, die bewust deden denken aan de legendarische E-Type, en zijn luxueuze interieur met leer en kostbare houtinleg, combineerde de Jaguar XK8 traditionele elegantie met moderne techniek. Als coupé oogde hij krachtig en elegant, als cabriolet beloofde hij pure vrijheid en Brits understatement.
Onder de motorkap zat een mijlpaal: de eerste volledig aluminium V8 in de geschiedenis van Jaguar, met 4,0 liter cilinderinhoud en een zijdezachte, verfijnde loop. Vanaf 1998 voegde Jaguar de supercharged-variant (XKR) toe, die met 363 pk aanzienlijk meer vermogen bood en de XK8 tot een serieuze sportwagen maakte.
In 2002 vond een grondige revisie plaats. De cilinderinhoud groeide tot 4.196 cm³, waardoor het vermogen van de XK8 steeg tot 298 pk en dat van de XKR tot 396 pk. Ook uiterlijk werd de wagen licht gemoderniseerd, onder andere met gewijzigde bumpers en technische detailverbeteringen.
Tot 2005 werden er 90.616 exemplaren van de XK8 en XKR gebouwd. Tegenwoordig wordt de X100 beschouwd als een stijlvolle vertegenwoordiger van de Britse grand-tourer-cultuur en is hij een gewilde klassieker.

The Jaguar XK and its history
In 1996, the XK8 was launched at the Geneva Motor Show and became an immediate success. The coupé and cabriolet impressed with an outstanding finished, pleasing body and a fantastically successful V8 engine, which has also just been developed at Jaguar.
The XK8 was designed at Jaguar under the acronym X100 and was to be the first vehicle in a long time to be developed from scratch at Jaguar. Previous coupé projects always had to use up resources from the predecessor XJS, which often also prevented the realisation of these projects.
The Jaguar XK was presented as the successor to the Jaguar XK8 at the IAA Frankfurt 2005 and was sold with the Jaguar AJ-V8 engine from the beginning of 2006. The X100 already had its most successful years behind it. The exterior of the XK took many design elements from the XF, which appeared in 2008. Technically, the XK represents the foundation of Jaguar's newer development.
Jaguar saw the XK as more of a Gran Turismo, developed under the code X150. It was also available as a coupé and a cabriolet. It did not achieve the sales figures of its predecessor during its short production period until 2014. The X150 has been discontinued without a direct successor. In the meantime, the sporty drivers were happy about the success of the F-Type, that was a little smaller.
