History of a legend

After the success of the Silver Shadow, it was not easy to build a model that would not only be a successor, but also surpasses its predecessor. So Rolls Royce had no choice but to build "the best car in the world". That was how the Silver Spirit was self-confidently called by the manufacturer.

This was achieved primarily through the work of Fritz Feller, who had already worked on the Silver Shadow and was now able to refine his art on the successor model. That it was successful can be seen from the exterior of the Silver Spirit: large rear and front lights (twin headlights) are the only showy features on the elegant, 5.27-meter-long model, which captivates with horizontal lines and restrained elegance.

The sister model Bentley Mulsanne can certainly keep up with the Spirit: Due to its successes in motor racing, which between 1924 and 1930 included five victories in the 24-hour race at Le Mans. The model was named after a neighboring village, through which a curve of the race track was running.

As always the same, the sister model Bentley Mulsanne only differs this time by the four round headlamps, compared to the broadband headlamps of the Silver Spirit. In 1987 the Bentley S was introduced, in 1984 the Bentley Eight: a simpler and cheaper version of the Bentley Mulsanne, recognizable by the wire mesh grille.

The aim was to compete with Jaguar and Mercedes Benz customers. As befits a racing car star, sporty versions with a turbocharged V8 engine (with supercharged V8 engine) were also built in 1982: The Bentley Mulsanne Turbo, Turbo R and Turbo RT.

Engine performance

What the exterior promises, the interior also delivers: The engine, a 6.75-liter aluminum eight-cylinder that already proved itself in the predecessors, was kept and continues to provide a brisk but pleasant ride - even at 186 km/h top speed.

A contactless, electronic ignition, together with the rear-wheel drive, ensures a slightly vibrating start, while the imperceptibly operating gearshift provides smooth and incomparable ride comfort. This is due to the hydropneumatics, which raises and lowers depending on the surface and turns even gravel roads into a pleasure ride.

Interior

The interior is in no way inferior to the rest of the car: Soft Connolly leather seats and the fine wooden dashboard convey cozy flair in traditional style.

However, a look at the technical equipment brings the driver back to the modern age: The air conditioning provides a cool breeze with technology that was unusually well-developed at the time, and the Blaupunkt stereo system provides the appropriate background music.

Limora offers all Silver Spirit and Bentley-Mulsanne spare parts

If you're the proud owner of a Silver Spirit, there's one more question to answer that hasn't been mentioned yet: How many times have you sunk the Spirit of Ecstasy into the radiator cowling? Common today, this was quite new at the time - and still invites you to test the functionality of the pressure sensors.

We are gladly at your disposal for all questions concerning your legendary youngtimer. We also deliver all Silver Spirit and Bentley Mulsanne spare parts from stock. Order before 22:00 and you will receive your order the next working day.
